Texas – a state with two facades
Texas is the state where I will spend my exchange year. After California, Texas has the most inhabitants with 28.3 million. It’s located in the south central region of the United States which causes a very hot climate. That’s great because I don’t like winter that much and you can walk around in shorts almost the whole year because in the winter it often doesn’t get colder than 15°C (60°f). Houston is the biggest city but Austin is the capital of Texas. Another big and famous city is Dallas, the city where I will live just 50 km (30 miles) away from. But you can get more information in my other text about Dallas and flower Mound. There are a lot of stereotypes or clichés about Texans. Everybody will think of cowboys riding in the steppe, swinging their lassos and drinking beer in a saloon and in general being very unfriendly.

But those stereotypes are very antiquated and the Texans are very open for new people. Another interesting fact are the different ways of living in Texas. Many people live in big cities like Dallas, Houston and Austin but there are also traditional farms and little villages with no signs of life anywhere close. The great thing is that you can experience both ways of living because they differ so much but they are so close together. Two extreme lifestyles which can’t be found anywhere in Germany.
You will read about the lifestyle and way of life in one of my further posts.
